Green cherries on the tree are the hopeful sign that an abundant crop is on the horizon; some 10 million small-scale farmers depend on coffee as their primary source of income.
Fero Coop members in Sidama Coffee Union undertake the labour-intensive work of hand-sorting and sun-drying their coffee, in order to assure best possible quality.
During a roaster/producer exchange in 2007 sponsored by CoopCoffees and hosted by CECOCAFEN,  we discuss quality control and calibration during a green-bean, defect-sorting excercise.
Wrapping up an exchange between producers and CoopCoffees roasters in 2010, Pangoa Cooperative members in the Central Jungle Region of Peru delight us with a traditional dance performance..
SPP. Organizing under their own identifying symbol is one way that small-scale farmers are able to distinguish themselves from more corporate approaches to fair and direct trade.
