LpB – La p’tite Brûlerie micro roastery has been operating out of the beautiful Portneuf region of Québec, 50 km from Québec City, for more than 10 years.

Owner Mélanie Gagné left Montréal for Deschambault in 2010 after falling in love with the region. Inspired by the people in her new home and the majestic Saint Lawrence River that runs through it, Mélanie decided to share her love for fair trade organic coffee, a passion she developed while studying international relations at UQAM. Her dream came true in the summer of 2011, when she opened her first roastery and café in Deschambault, in a space shared with friend, businesswoman and chocolatier Julie Vachon. With a reputation for quality and a devoted local customer base attracted by the aroma of freshly roasted coffee, it quickly became a hit.

In June 2017, Mélanie purchased a charming historic building (the former “Salle des habitants”) on rue de l’Église, with a separate space for roasting equipment, room for almost twice as many customers and a lush outdoor seating area in the heart of Deshambault. An instant success, the new café-boutique quickly became a top spot in Portneuf, and its popularity continued to grow thanks in part to a concerted effort to attract tourists to Deschambault. This idyllic setting is where LpB – La p’tite Brûlerie celebrated its 10-year anniversary!

With a dramatic rise in online coffee sales during the pandemic, increasing commercial sales and a growing number of distributors across Québec, we began focusing on our roasting operations. In 2021, all roasting, packaging, shipping and commercial operations moved from Deschambault to nearby Saint-Basile.

Never one to shy away from change, Mélanie decided in 2022 to hand over the reins of the café-boutique in Deschambault so that she could concentrate on what she does best—roasting coffee. LpB – La p’tite Brûlerie is now entirely devoted to roasting and distribution. It’s the beginning of another chapter in our story. Our roots are still in Portneuf, but we’re bringing coffee to customers across Québec!

“From the very beginning, our mission has been to provide the people of Portneuf with high-quality, responsible specialty coffee that’s freshly roasted right in their own backyard. Our coffee is responsibly sourced and certified organic. Of the highest quality, it’s grown in the spirit of sustainable agriculture, one that’s environmentally sound and respectful of producer partners. We import green coffee beans in collaboration with Cooperative Coffees, a group of roasters that maintains direct, transparent and sustainable business partnerships with producers in Latin America, Africa and Asia, and whose unique ethical business model aligns perfectly with Mélanie’s own values. We then roast the beans carefully and skillfully in order to complement their unique flavour profiles.”
